‘Austral Gem’™
The all new introduction from Casa Flora adds ferns to the “stylish and easy” group of indoor plants. Glossy fronds resist the drying effects of heated and air conditioned spaces. Care of 'Austral Gem'™ is similar to a Spath or Philodendron, water when needed, fertilize occasionally and enjoy. ‘Austral Gem’™ adds a touch of style, can brighten a room, and turn blank spaces into must-see spaces. The dark-green fronds appear to have been sprayed with plant shine. The stipe is sturdy and the frond is thick and stiff, so it can be used adjacent to low traffic areas and in planters. We have never seen a fern with so much indoor potential. |

‘Austral Gem’™ also is suitable for cut foliage in flower arrangements. The fine texture and heavy substance combined with a glossy finish adds that touch of character. Since it is sterile, no spore form to drop onto tablecloths and flowers.
‘Austral Gem’™ makes a fine 4” pot and is in its glory in 6” and larger. Fast finish time and excellent shelf life reduce shrinkage while the dark-green, glossy fronds attract impulse sales and easy maintenance attracts interiorscapers.
‘Austral Gem’™ is a cross between Asplenium dimorphum and Asplenium diforme. Spores do not mature so the plant is sterile. Ultimately reaching 20” high and 24” across, the substantial texture and abundance of fronds creates a solid center mass surrounded by feathery fountains of green.
